'Such a threat': Alan Shearer wowed by £33m Aston Villa star after two 'brilliant' things he did against Bournemouth

Alan Shearer was wowed by one Aston Villa player during Sunday’s 3-1 win home victory over Bournemouth.

Leon Bailey, Moussa Diaby and Morgan Rogers were on target for the hosts as they tightened their grip on fourth spot.

Tottenham now sit six points adrift of Villa, although Ange Postecoglou’s men do hold two games in hand.

There were several unplayable performances on Sunday, with Rogers once again catching the eye after his January switch from Middlesbrough.

Gary Lineker was full of praise for the January addition. “Another exceptional English talent,” he said. “I mean, crikey. They’re producing them suddenly; it’s crazy, and it’s quite fun.”

Alan Shearer has also named another Aston Villa player who caught his eye with another “brilliant” performance.

In his Premier League Team of the Week predictions, the Newcastle United legend praised Ollie Watkins’ contribution.

“Even when he’s not scoring, Watkins is still such a threat for his side,” he explained.

“Two brilliant assists in a huge win for Aston Villa as they look to secure UEFA Champions League football next season.”

Aston Villa forwards now firing at precisely the right time for Unai Emery

Villa’s forwards are hitting top form at exactly the right time. When Watkins isn’t scoring, he’s assisting the likes of Bailey and Rogers.

Four players are now in red-hot form, a daunting prospect for opposition defences. Watkins’ weekend assists demonstrate how much he’s improved under Emery’s stewardship.

Before the Spaniard’s arrival, the £33million signing was erratic and lacked composure. Villa’s talisman has added a creative edge to his already impressive game. Assists along with his goals could be why Villa break into the top four come the end of the 2023/24 season.

Up next is a home fixture against a resurgent Chelsea. Given what’s at stake, anything less than maximum points will be a disappointing return. However, considering Villa’s current form, it’s hard to envisage the away side keeping the hosts’ in-form attacker quiet.
