Troy Deeney says Man City have a player who would absolutely destroy Sol Campbell in his prime

Troy Deeney believes Manchester City have a player who would dominate Sol Campbell in his prime.

It’s safe to say that to make such a claim about any player doing that to Campbell might be considered outlandish by many.

The former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur colossus is considered one of the best centre-backs in Premier League history.

Right alongside names like Vincent Kompany, Virgil van Dijk, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry, the retired defender’s name would also be taken as some of the league’s absolute greats.

During his playing days, Campbell rarely came out second best in any battle with a forward.

The 49-year-old had faced several greats of the game during his career.

Troy Deeney says City have a player who’d dominate Sol Campbell

In training alone for Arsenal, Sol Campbell would have to go toe-to-toe with Thierry Henry.

If the Frenchman was not enough of a test for the Englishman, Dennis Bergkamp was another attacker he would come up against.

While Sol Campbell has gone toe-to-toe with the likes of Ronaldo Nazario and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

As a result, Campbell well and truly competed with players of such an ilk that are perhaps not even present in world football today.

However, Deeney feels a certain City player would give the Gunners legend a run for his money.

Troy Deeney feels Erling Haaland could bully both Sol Campbell but also Tony Adams if he faced them.

“Mate, he would run all over Tony Adams, Sol Campbell”, he said on Fozcast: The Ben Foster Podcast.

When Ben Foster described his former Watford teammate’s comment as “disrespectful”, he replied, “It’s not.”

Haaland certainly could give the Arsenal legend a tough time

It is tough to say with as much certainty as Troy Deeney did that Erling Haaland would boss proceedings against Sol Campbell.

Or Tony Adams for that matter.

Some might argue that with Sol Campbell and Tony Adams’ know-how, they might be touch-tight to Erling Haaland; a type of battle he has not fared well in this season and disprove Troy Deeney.

However, Haaland has the physical stature to dominate them and run in behind them.

If the £51 million man was to be given space to run into by either, he would run riot.

But it is difficult to state who would come out on top if such a battle took place.
