Liverpool are looking for a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp ahead of his Anfield departure at the end of the season.
The Reds have been linked with a number of big names to take over from Klopp, including Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim.
Alonso was the first frontrunner for the role, until he revealed he planned to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen.
Amorim’s name then began circling as a frontrunner for the Liverpool role following his heroics at Sporting Lisbon.
However, a new name has now entered into the picture as a leading candidate for the Liverpool job.
According to the Evening Standard, Feyenoord’s Arne Slot is now at the top of the Anfield wish-list to replace Klopp.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool Echo has reported that Slot fits all the criteria that has been set out in the process of finding their new manager.
Who is Liverpool target Arne Slot?
Slot has been in charge of Feyenoord for three seasons, reaching the Europa Conference League final in 2022 and then winning their first Eredivisie title in six years last term.
The Dutch giants are second in the table this term and won the 2023/24 Dutch Cup just last weekend.
Slot was in the running to take the Tottenham reins last year, leading to a lot of speculation about his next destination.
Feyenoord’s Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who used to play for Brighton & Hove Albion, has sung the 53-year-old’s praises on a couple of occasions.
“During my time at AZ, as assistant coach, Arne Slot, was one of the people who helped me to become a better player,” he said in 2021 following his move to Feyenoord, as reported by The Argus.
“So when he called and asked if I wanted to come to Feyenoord, I told him I was going to do everything I could to make this transfer. I had no doubts.”
In a further interview, the Iran international labelled Slot as “the best” in the Netherlands.
“He is one of the best managers I’ve ever seen,” he said, as per The Athletic. “In football terms, even the best. At the moment, he is the best in the Netherlands.”
