'Head in his hands': Mikel Arteta couldn't believe what Kai Havertz did in first-half for Arsenal - reporter

Mikel Arteta was left in disbelief after what Kai Havertz decided to do during the first-half as Arsenal looked for a second goal against Chelsea on Tuesday.

Arsenal flew out of the traps at the Emirates. Leandro Trossard broke the deadlock inside the first four minutes as he drove the ball past Djordje Petrovic in the Chelsea goal.

It appeared that it may prove to be a long night for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, particularly with talisman Cole Palmer missing the game.

But Chelsea did grow into the contest and caused some problems of their own.

So that perhaps explains why Mikel Arteta was a little concerned when Arsenal blew a very good opportunity to double their lead.

Kai Havertz leaves Mikel Arteta with his head in his hands

Kai Havertz seemed to have all sorts of time to pick his spot and score against his former club. However, the German decided against having a strike on goal.

Havertz tried to find Declan Rice. And that allowed Chelsea to intercept the ball.

As noted by BBC reporter Alex Howell, Mikel Arteta was not at all impressed by the 24-year-old’s decision in that moment.

“Arteta has his head in his hands when Havertz’s pass to Rice is intercepted in the box. Arsenal should have scored a second. They’re so dominant at the moment, Chelsea can’t get out of their half,” he said.

Arsenal boss may have feared mistake would be costly

The Premier League title race is looking set to come down to the finest of margins. And Arsenal are still looking for their way back towards a top gear after a tough couple of weeks.

Chelsea were punished for a lacklustre start to the game. But David Raya was undoubtedly the busier goalkeeper from there, even if he did not have many big saves to make.

So Arteta may have been worried about how costly that decision from Havertz would prove to be.
