Ben White did something in 5-0 Arsenal victory over Chelsea that he never managed before

Arsenal strolled to a stunning 5-0 victory over London rivals Chelsea, a result which saw them temporarily go three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

A dominant display saw Leandro Trossard open the scoring early on, before Kai Havertz and Ben White both scored braces to record Arsenal’s biggest-ever win over Chelsea.

White’s brace was remarkable in itself, that a right-back had managed to find the scoresheet twice in one game, and his second goal was perhaps a fluke as he seemingly attempted to cross the ball before it flew into the top corner.

The 26-year-old has been outstanding all season, and this victory broke new grounds for the defender, as he did something he never managed before in his entire career.

White made it 2-0 to Arsenal early on in the second half, as he powered a left-footed shot into the bottom corner after a rebound from a set-piece fell to him.

It was a finish similar to his goal against Sheffield United recently, and the power and accuracy of the shot from his weak foot was impressive.

He then added a second on the night to round off the scoring, as he found himself in behind the Chelsea defence again, and seemingly aimed a cross towards Havertz, who was looking for his hattrick.

Instead, the ball flew past the Chelsea goalkeeper and into the top corner, and completed what was a thoroughly mesmerising performance from the right-back.

White has spent most of his career at centre-back, and has never been a prolific goalscorer, but he now has four strikes to his name this season.

His brace against Chelsea was the first he has ever scored at senior level. White never scored for Brighton and Hove Albion, and managed just one goal for Newport County and Leeds.

The 26-year-old has now scored six times in Arsenal colours, and his double on Tuesday night was the first time he had scored more than once in one game.

Whilst his second goal may have been somewhat lucky, it does highlight how dangerous White is in attacking areas, with his excellent technique and coolness on the ball proving valuable in building attacks around the opposition box.
