Why David Hancko could be Arne Slot’s obvious first Liverpool signing

Liverpool will bring new players in this summer. There may not be a lot of changes in the playing squad, but it’s obvious there are weaknesses in the squad that have to be addressed.

One area where Liverpool definitely need to strengthen is in the centre-back department. Joel Matip seems destined to leave upon the expiry of his contract this summer.

Matip’s injury will leave Liverpool with few senior options. Even with the emergence of Jarell Quansah, Liverpool will want to bring in another centre-back.

That centre-back could preferably be someone who is comfortable playing as a left-sided centre-back. For that role few fit the bill better than David Hancko.

Under Slot at Feyenoord, Hancko has established himsel

f as one of the best centre-backs in the Eredivisie. He is left-footed and very comfortable playing in that left-sided centre-back role.

We also know that, as his agent confirmed, Liverpool have been tracking his progress over the last year or so.

Why Hancko could be the perfect move for Liverpool

So not only is Hancko already on Liverpool’s radar, he is well known by Liverpool’s new potential manager.

Everything points in the direction that he could be a really smart acquisition for Liverpool, and perhaps the most obvious candidate for Slot’s first transfer as the club’s new manager.

At 26-years-old, Hancko is definitely ready to make the step-up to Liverpool. He is in the prime years of his career.

It also helps that he is very capable of covering at left-back as well, and has experience playing in that position. We know versatility is something Liverpool appreciate when it comes to their recruitment.
