Unai Emery expected to make further backroom additions at Aston Villa

Unai Emery has committed his long-term future to Aston Villa, and fresh news has emerged about what the Spaniard plans to do over the summer.

The 52-year-old penned an extension on Tuesday, meaning he will remain in the West Midlands until at least 2027.

After interest from Bayern Munich emerged, the news will come as a relief. And it appears Emery is wholly invested in the club’s long-term project.

NSWE’s ambition aligns well with the squad’s current trajectory. And if the Champions League is reached, the Villa boss won’t be content by merely participating.

The Athletic released an in-depth look into Emery’s management style and what those inside the walls of Bodymoor Heath think of the former Arsenal boss’ methods.

An interesting line suggests that now faces could arrive behind the scenes in the summer.

The Athletic wrote: “With a Spanish-speaking contingent running to more than two dozen, Emery wanted people he knew and could trust.

“There is an expectation from sources close to the dressing room that he will add to his staff again this summer.

“He has his first-choice backroom team, including coaches, analysts and doctors. Emery’s personal assistant and closest friend Damian Vidagany’s job title changed during the off-season from personal assistant to director of football.”

Aston Villa set lofty ambitions after news this week

With Emery committing his future to the club, it feels like becoming a regular top-four feature is only the start.

The 52-year-old wants to show he’s amongst Europe’s elite managers and potentially right the wrongs of his time at The Emirates. It’s now becoming clear that he was treated extremely unfairly.

Looking at who could compete with City, Liverpool and Arsenal, it feels like Villa have the strongest case. An elite manager combined with a board more than willing to support his wishes is a recipe for success.

If Champions League football can be secured come the end of May, the sky could well be the limit for Villa when the 2024/25 season starts in August.
