'He doesn't have it': Danny Murphy says Rodri is miles better than £100m Man City target in one area

Danny Murphy has said that one player Manchester City have been linked with recently has a big weakness.

The Blues have been known to sign players from fellow Premier League clubs during previous transfer window.

Having now seen City being linked with a summer transfer move for one current top-flight star, a pundit and former Premier League player has highlighted one problem that the transfer target in question has.

Murphy says Bruno Guimaraes is not as good as Rodri in one key aspect

Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy had this to say on the subject of Bruno Guimaraes, who City have been linked with a £100m summer move for recently, and the one thing that stops him from being a top-level player.

He said: “He’s been found out defensively at times, not just him.

“He’s a wonderful footballer, a brilliant, intelligent technician but when you compare him to people like Rodri and Declan Rice, that real elite, athletic [type of player].

“That mobility, he doesn’t have it.”

Is Murphy right about Bruno Guimaraes?

Back in January, it was revealed that Guimaraes had covered 216.1km in the Premier League at that stage of the season, the fourth-highest in the division behind James Ward-Prowse (224), Dejan Kulusevski (222.9) and Rice (221.7).

Then, at the same point of the campaign, it was revealed that Rodri had ran further in one specific game than either Rice or Guimaraes had at that point, with the Spaniard running 12.9km in City’s home match against Tottenham Hotspur.

With that taken into account, while the Newcastle United star may, according to Murphy, not have the ability to move around the pitch constantly in the same fashion as Rodri or Rice, we feel that this shouldn’t stop City from launching a summer transfer move for him if they feel he’d be a good fit to their ranks.
