‘Being brutally honest’: Danny Murphy thinks £47m Man United player would be so much better under Jurgen Klopp

Danny Murphy has named the Manchester United player who he feels would thrive under a manager like Jurgen Klopp.

Manchester United came from behind twice to beat bottom of the Premier League Sheffield United at Old Trafford last night.

Erik ten Hag was without a win in his last four league games and off the back of Sunday’s display at Wembley, the Dutchman was under pressure to deliver a result.

United got the job done in the end, with Bruno Fernandes’ second-half brace securing the three points.

The Portuguese star stepped up from the penalty spot on the hour mark to get Ten Hag’s men back on level terms.

Fernandes then netted with a stunning effort from range on his weaker foot in the 81st minute before Rasmus Hojlund wrapped up the three points just minutes later.

And off the back of another unconvincing performance from United, Danny Murphy believes one of their key players would be better off under the likes of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp or Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.

Murphy makes claim about Bruno Fernandes and Jurgen Klopp

Speaking on Match of the Day, Murphy admitted that Fernandes’ antics on the pitch can be frustrating to watch at times.

But the former Liverpool man has no doubts over the 29-year-old’s ability and believes much of his frustration is down to a lack of quality around him.

“His best quality which all the top players have is his bravery to continue to try and create and make things happen for his team when other people are hiding,” Murphy said.

“He’s a wonderful technician, his histrionics can be a little bit frustrating, to say the least. But being brutally honest with his quality if he had been in a team with Klopp or Guardiola over the last few years maybe he wouldn’t have the same histrionics because he wouldn’t be getting as frustrated with the quality of players around him.”

It’s difficult to disagree with Murphy here as Fernandes has long been one of United’s standout players.

The £47 million man never lacks when it comes to his work-rate either, which would naturally make him a good fit for the likes of City and Liverpool.

Of course, the chances of the United skipper playing under Klopp or Guardiola are slim.

But with United weighing up the possibility of a change in the dugout next season, you’d imagine that Fernandes will be central to a potential new manager’s plan moving forward.

How many Premier League goals has Fernandes scored?

Fernandes continues to provide for United in the final third and has had a hand in 26 goals in 44 appearances this term.

His record in the Premier League is particularly excellent for a midfielder, netting 54 times and providing 39 assists in 156 appearances in the competition.

Jamie Redknapp has recently claimed the United skipper receives unfair criticism and doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

Fernandes is arguably one of very few United players who can take pride in their performances this season. Many have underwhelmed for the Red Devils but Fernandes continues to lead by example in midfield.
