Yannick Bolasie and Tim Cahill loved what £1.5m Everton player did against Liverpool last night

Yannick Bolasie and Tim Cahill absolutely loved what they saw one Everton player do against Liverpool last night.

It was a famous night at Goodison Park as Sean Dyche’s side recorded an impressive 2-0 Merseyside Derby win to all but secure their Premier League status.

The victory has also severely dented Jurgen Klopp’s title ambitions. The Reds are now three points behind Arsenal and one point better off than Manchester City. Crucially, Pep Guardiola’s side hold two games in hand.

It’s hard to single out one player on a night that was littered with top-class performances. Jordan Pickford made seven saves and never looked like he was going to be beaten by Liverpool’s erratic front line [stats per FotMob].

Jarrad Branthwaite was once again superb alongside the ever-reliable James Tarkowski. Ben Godfrey also performed well after coming in for his first start since the second of April.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was also excellent, leading the line. The Englishman was too hot to handle for Virgil van Dijk, and the less said about Ibrahima Konaté’s performance, the better.

Taking to Instagram after the game, Bolasie commented on Calvert-Lewin’s Instagram post. He said, “Vintage airways [2x fire emojis].” Cahill also commented a blue heart.

Gary Neville spot on about ‘on fire’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Speaking during Sky Sports’ commentary of the fixture, Gary Neville was in awe of the striker’s performance.

“They can’t handle Calvert-Lewin,” he said.

“He’s had such a difficult season. He’s got three in his last four. He’s beating Liverpool’s centre-backs up. It could’ve been and maybe should’ve been three. He’s [Calvert-Lewin] is on fire.”

The former Manchester United full-back is right. When he’s on form, there are very few who can handle the £1.5million signing. His aerial prowess, pace, physicality and finishing ability make him the all-round package.

It’s now about maintaining fitness for Calvert-Lewin. If he continually features, Everton have one of the Premier League’s most complete forwards on their books.
