TV star falling for AI bot could impact her love life forever, says dating expert

EXCLUSIVE: Reality Titbit caught up with relationship expert Nicole Moore and talked all things catfishing and dating. If there’s one show where posing as someone else online is kind of acceptable, it’s Netflix’s The Circle.

The Circle is back for season 6 this Spring and there’s a whole new group of players ready to be crowned “most popular” on social media. Philly gal Lauren LaChant went into the Netflix show with a profile “ready to slay the day.” But, because of the connection brewing between Lauren and an AI playing the game, dating expert Nicole warns of some concerns.

The Circle AI talks to Lauren who is recently single

Self-confessed “nerd” and happy-go-lucky gamer Lauren hails from Philadelphia.

The 26-year-old told cameras how she’s into cosplay and can spend hours upon hours gaming.

She explains how she’s “recently single” and “wants to meet some hot people” on the show.

Lauren writes on her profile she’s “super single.” She adds how people often say she has a “flirty personality.”

Going into The Circle, Lauren said she was entering the show as “100 per cent herself.”

However, not everyone is playing the same game and Lauren is plunged into a social circle with an AI – unbeknownst to her.

Fans clocked on to Lauren taking a liking to AI player ‘Max’. Many found the scenario funny but others were concerned for her.

Dating expert weighs in

As it appears Lauren starts to form a connection for ‘Max’, dating expert Nicole explains what this can do for a contestant’s mental health.

The love coach explains: “It can be very damaging for the player’s psyche to find out that they unknowingly fell for an AI robot and not a real person. Many people fear being deceived in romantic relationships or having the rug pulled out from under them and adding in the AI element just further increases the fear of being deceived.

When one is catfished in the dating market which is essentially what’s occurring with the player falling for the AI, it can create feelings of distrust about dating and intense self-doubt.”

Fears for Lauren’s future

If The Circle’s Lauren was to develop strong feelings for the AI bot (before ‘Max’ was revealed to the cast) then things could have taken their toll, says Nicole.

She explains: “When you realize that you fell for the wrong person, it can cause you to turn that pain inward mistakenly believing that attacking yourself for falling for a lie can protect you from doing it again.

“Many daters who feel they’ve been deceived in the dating market become hyper-vigilant afterward and they’re always on alert for being scammed again. This behavior can cause issues when they finally do meet someone trustworthy because it can be hard to turn off the hyper-vigilance and trust again.

“In the case of The Circle, this player did go on to a show that’s known for catfishing so she may not be severely traumatized for finding out her romantic interest is an AI robot, however, she’s likely to feel embarrassed or foolish at the very least.”
