Pol Valentin gives Spanish one-word verdict on Windass goal for Sheffield Wednesday v Blackburn

Sheffield Wednesday gave fans yet another memorable away day last weekend.

Although this season has been a huge struggle, it’s been one full of memories and highlights for Sheffield Wednesday fans.

Every win has felt like a cup final win, which is appropriate as every game for the last few months now has been a proverbial cup final.

Last weekend, Sheffield Wednesday beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1.

Josh Windass opened the scoring with a neat finish from range, with Marvin Johnson on the scoresheet, and an own goal from Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears completing the win.

Windass has had a fairly quiet season by his standards.

He’s now on four goals in the Championship this season, but on Sunday, he scored yet another huge goal.

And this one was very impressive too; Pears was caught outside of his box and the ball fell to Windass, who on the half-volley lobbed the Blackburn goalkeeper from range.

The goal went viral on social media with Wednesday and Blackburn being the only Championship game that day.

Dom Howson was wowed by Windass‘ goal, lauding the striker’s ‘sensational technique’.

And speaking to the press before the Championship clash against West Brom at Hillsborough this weekend, Spanish full-back Pol Valentin was asked to sum up Windass’ striker at Blackburn in one word, in Spanish.

“For me, ‘increíble’ [incredible]. For me it is maybe one of the most difficult goals I have seen.”

Valentin has now featured 34 times in the Championship this season compared to Windass’ 23.

Valentin though is yet to score or record an assist despite some dangerous performances down the right wing.

He’s become a key player under Rohl and a huge favourite among supporters, for his positive attitude and hard-working performances.

One thing is evident at Sheffield Wednesday right now

Results aside, strong individual performances aside, and everything else, it seems like Sheffield Wednesday have one thing in abundance right now; togetherness.

Valentin in his pre-West Brom interview came across as being really calm and also happy in his surroundings.

It suggests that he and the group have really bonded under Rohl this season and that’s absolutely vital in a relegation battle.

Rohl has worked wonders both on and off the pitch it seems, and Windass too showing how he’s a real big-game player for the Owls, with another vital goal last weekend.

West Brom is going to be another huge task with the Baggies needing a win to cement their spot in the top six.

Kick off is at 4pm on Saturday.
