'Wonderful actress' dies after spending final months being selfless - 'Devoted until the end'

The Young and the Restless star Meg Bennett sadly passed away on April 11 after a battle with cancer, and dedicated the final years of her life to raising money for charities.

Meg, best known for her role in the TV drama The Young and the Restless, selflessly spent the last few years of her life raising money for The Alzheimer’s Association.

Bennett’s family recently announced she had died on April 11, after a battle with cancer, at the age of 75.

“Meg lost her battle with cancer. Until nearly the end she was devotedly working with children, writing, and engaging with her far-flung family and friends,” her obituary read.

The star became a household name as she featured in the in hit USA soap from 1980 right through until 2020, playing the character of Julia Martin.

Meg also gained writing credits on the hit show, after her character was ‘phased out’ of a storyline. It was then when show creator Bill Bell asked her to continue working for the show as one of the writers.

The celebrity also starred in hit shows including General Hospital and Santa Barbara.

During her later years, Meg turned to health charities, helping raise money for The Alzheimer’s Association. She frequently shared posts on her personal social media pages, asking fans for donations.

Her final Instagram post before her death came on her birthday in September 2023, where she asked her followers to donate for her big day.

“For my birthday this year, I’m asking for donations to Alzheimer’s Association,” the star penned. “I’ve chosen this nonprofit because their mission means a lot to me, and I hope you’ll consider contributing as a way to celebrate with me.”

Tributes pour in for the star

As the devastating news breaks, fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to mourn the loss of the star.

“RIP to the wonderful actress Meg Bennett, who played Victor’s 1st wife, Julia,” penned one.

“RIP to the beautiful and elegant Meg Bennett. Before Nikki there was Julia, her and Victor had a beautiful friendship,” another wrote.

A third penned: “Another Soap Loss… Rest in Peace Meg Bennett.”
