'Let's be honest': Jamie Carragher says 24-year-old has done absolutely 'nothing' ever since he signed for Man United

Manchester United look set to stumble over the finish line in the Premier League this season, with little hope of making the top five.

The Red Devils have lost 12 games in the league this season, and needed to come from behind twice at home to Sheffield United in midweek.

And despite reaching the FA Cup final, Manchester United didn’t exactly make light work of Coventry City in the semi-finals.

Pressure is mounting on Erik ten Hag, whose Red Devils outfit seems to be going through the motions with no discernible style of play.

But while there has been criticism of the Dutchman from some quarters, Jamie Carragher believes his man-management has been good with regards to certain players.

What has Jamie Carragher said about Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and players such as Jadon Sancho?

Ten Hag has found himself at loggerheads with certain high-profile players over the course of his tenure.

Cristiano Ronaldo was one of those, and he ended up being cut loose. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho is now out on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

Carragher and Gary Neville have been speaking about how Ten Hag dealt with both players, and both pundits seem to be on the Dutchman’s side.

The Liverpool icon also spoke about Sancho in particular, saying he feels the winger has done “nothing” of note at Old Trafford.

“I think they are the things I admire him (Ten Hag) on,” Carragher said on The Overlap.

“I don’t think he has got them wrong at all. Ronaldo had to be dealt with, and he dealt with it head on.

“Sancho, the club looked after him for a couple of months with whatever was going on off the pitch, I think he made a very small comment…

“Let’s be honest, he did nothing for Man United. £70/80 million and he did nothing. He dealt with that when he stepped out of line.

“Now you have Rashford whatever is going on there, and he brought him off at the weekend. I wouldn’t worry in terms of what he has done in terms of how he runs the squad or discipline.”

Manchester United spent over £70million to sign Sancho from Dortmund in 2021, and his arrival was seen as a coup for the Red Devils.

However, the 24-year-old struggled across two seasons at Old Trafford before falling out of favour this term.

Sancho has continued to struggle in the Bundesliga, scoring just two goals in 15 appearances for Dortmund.

It doesn’t look as though Sancho has a way back at Man United while Ten Hag is in charge.

At the end of the day, the Dutchman is trying to keep standards high on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Mikel Arteta got a lot of flak when he was in the process of freezing out and offloading high-profile players that he felt didn’t fit in his dressing room.

However, this was part of the process that saw Arsenal go from a banter club to a Premier League title challenger and Champions League quarter-finalist.

It looks as though Ten Hag is doing something similar, but it’s not exactly a quick process. The question now is whether he’ll be afforded time to see his rebuilding job through.
