Report: Tottenham now looking to sell 'fantastic' player for £16m less than what they paid for him

Tottenham Hotspur could well be busy in the summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou looks to make more changes to his squad.

Postecoglou has worked wonders at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since taking the reins last summer.

Spurs are in a much better position then they were a year ago, when they limped to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League table.

Postecoglou has not only brought in some top talents and got the most out of previously struggling players, but he has also moved numerous players on.

Now, a report from Spain has provided an update on what may happen with another Tottenham player whose future at N17 continues to be uncertain.

The player in question is Bryan Gil, who has shown glimpses of his quality at Spurs but remains on the fringes of Postecoglou’s squad.

According to Estadio Deportivo, the 23-year-old is ‘not enjoying’ his Tottenham tenure very much, and is keen on making a permanent return to Sevilla.

Numerous clubs are said to be after Gil, including Real Sociedad and Feyenoord, but the player desires a move back to his former club in Andalucia.

Meanwhile, Spurs have reportedly placed a price tag of €7-8million (£6-6.9million) on Gil, a substantial drop from the £22million they apparently paid Sevilla for him.

Bryan Gil faces uncertain future at Tottenham amid lack of game time

Gil is a top talent who Postecoglou himself has deemed “fantastic“, but the truth is, he’s barely getting a look-in for Spurs at present.

His contract runs until 2026, so it’s not as though Tottenham are in a hurry to sell him, but they also need to figure out whether they genuinely see him as a long-term prospect or not.

Let’s see whether Gil gets opportunities in pre-season, and then perhaps Postecoglou can decide once and for all to stick or twist.

However, you’d like to think that Tottenham will request something closer to what they actually paid for him, rather than a £16million reduction.
