Sky Sports pundit David Prutton now gives score prediction for Watford vs Sunderland

Sunderland travel to Watford in the Championship this weekend.

Sunderland face a tricky trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford on Saturday, with Mike Dodds and his players desperate for a win.

After 12 games as interim boss, Dodds has just two wins to his name.

Last time out the Black Cats lost 1-0 at home to Millwall in arguably one of the worst performances of the season, let alone under Dodds.

That defeat has brought Dodds under criticism, with Sunderland fans venting their anger at the interim boss after full-time.

In their club history, Sunderland have beaten Watford 19 times, drawing 16, and losing 11.

In the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light earlier this season, the Black Cats claimed a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Niall Huggins and Abdoullah Ba.

That was Sunderland’s first win against Watford since 2016, though the Black Cats have only lost once against the Hornets since 2015.

Watford last beat the Black Cats 1-0 at Vicarage Road in 2017, having only beaten Sunderland once at home since 1999.

Both teams go into this game in poor form and on the back of relatively poor seasons.

Sunderland currently sit in 13th place of the table and have won just two of their last 13 now, whilst Watford sit in 15th and have won just one of their last 11.

The Hornets have just made Tom Cleverley their new head coach following an interim spell in charge.

In seven games as interim, Cleverley oversaw one win and one loss, with five draws.

And giving his score prediction for the game between Watford and Sunderland on Saturday, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton predicted a 2-2 scoreline.

Mike Dodds desperately needs a win

Dodds’ reputation seems to have taken a bit of a hit after that Millwall defeat in particular.

He looks set to be kept on when the club hires a new manager in the summer, but if he ever wants to step foot into management on his own, potential employers might not look too fondly on this latest spell as interim Sunderland boss.

But a win here and a win against Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of the season would leave him with a half-decent record.

Watford are out of form and may be there for the taking.

Though they’ve really shored up in recent weeks and Cleverley will be eager to prove his worth having now been named manager, in what is his first job as a manager too.

It’s all to play for then and despite both teams languishing in mid-table, it should be a very competitive and open game on Saturday.

Kick off is at 3pm.
