Doctor comments on blending fruits

Let’s talk about the popular opinion that the nutrients in a fruit are destroyed when it’s blended. London-based surgeon Dr. Karan brushes it off as a myth.

According to him, blending fruits doesn’t impact its nutrients or fibers negatively, whereas it only makes it easier for you to have it without having to chew first.

The doctor explains that the fibers in the fruits can survive a blender if they can survive the acids in your stomach.

The type of fruit you use can unlock or release more nutrients while blending. Dr. Karan says that the seeds in some fruits release fat proteins and phytonutrients when blended, thus more readily available for the body, as opposed to eating a whole fruit where seeds can remain intact.

The doctor recommends blending fruits if you have trouble chewing or need to consume a lot of them to meet your daily requirements.

Why juicing isn’t always recommended

While the doctor has no qualms about blending fruits, he suggests juicing isn’t a great option when the two methods are compared.

When you juice a fruit, it eliminates the pulp, and fiber immediately. This deprives you of all the nutrients from the rest of the fruit.

Dr. Karan says indulging in fruit juices occasionally shouldn’t be an issue. However, people with diabetes shouldn’t make it a habit as the fructose in fruit juice is absorbed more quickly into your bloodstream, spiking the sugar level.

Dr. Karan is best known for his videos related to medicine and health across different social media platforms. His expertise combined with entertainment has gained him millions of followers.

He is a certified NHS surgeon from London, currently serving as a lecturer at Sunderland University. Dr. Karan boasts over seven years of experience.
