Ange Postecoglou admits Tottenham player he’s never selected really has impressed him in training this week

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted there is one player who has really impressed him in training this week.

The north London club have had a two week break since their last game which came in the dismal defeat to Newcastle United.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side were embarrassed for the second season running up in the north east as the Toon put four goals past Guglielmo Vicario.

With Manchester City’s involvement in the semi finals of the FA Cup, it meant Tottenham‘s game against the reigning champions has been rescheduled as the penultimate game of the campaign.

But this has allowed Postecoglou with some extra time to prepare his players for the upcoming North London Derby at Hotspur Way.

And it is apparent one player has specifically caught his eye during their preparations for the game against Arsenal on Sunday.

Postecoglou will have some big decisions to make ahead of the derby and perhaps there is one player who could be working his way into his long-term plans.

Ange Postecoglou impressed by player he has never selected to date

Since the Australian’s arrival last summer, a number of new signings have come through the doors and made a name for themselves.

There have been established names like James Maddison signed by Daniel Levy and his solid season is something which will have been expected.

However, there is also players like Micky van de Ven and Vicario who arrived with a lot more to prove in a new league.

A result of Tottenham’s impressive season has meant opportunities for players from the club’s academy have been few and far between.

But there is one player who has been featuring in first-team training over the two-week break despite being just 16-years-old.

Young Mikey Moore is one of the club’s most exciting young talents and finds himself mixing it with the starting XI despite not even playing for Wayne Burnett’s U21s this season.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, Postecoglou admitted the youngster has seriously impressed him with his quality in training.

“Mikey has been really good. Look he’s a very talented boy and for him, he’s had a fairly disrupted season, he’s had a couple of injuries,” he said.

“When he’s performed, he’s performed really well. The reports I’ve had on him have always been outstanding. It’s been good to have him. Obviously we’ve had a couple of weeks without a game and it’s been good to get him involved in the first team.

“Again, to be fair to him he has adapted really well, he hasn’t looked out of place and it’s great for him. Hopefully it gives encouragement to him and some of the other guys who are coming through.”

When will Mikey Moore play under Ange Postecoglou?

Although Moore may have impressed this season for the U18s and in Spurs training, there are still a number of players who will be ahead of him in the pecking order.

The versatile forward will have players like Jamie Donley to compete with for a spot in the U21s side never mind the first team.

Donley has also enjoyed a seriously impressive season but in the Premier League 2 and he is one of the few players trusted by Postecoglou with first team minutes.

Spurs have seen a number of really exciting youngsters come through their ranks and struggle to really establish themselves in the first team.

Troy Parrott is the prime example of just that, so fans should certainly hold a lot of patience when it comes to the development of 16-year-old Moore.
