Ange Postecoglou reveals what he did after Daniel Levy sold Harry Kane at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has now been commenting on Harry Kane again ahead of this Sunday’s North London Derby.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal was a game which Harry Kane always relished and he often put on his best displays against the Gunners.

The 30-year-old became the top scorer in that specific fixture during his time in north London and continues to cause Mikel Arteta nightmares.

Although he has now been sold to Bayern Munich, the England captain piled the misery on Arsenal when he helped knock them out of the Champions League earlier this month.

And Kane has continued to impress during his first season in Munich as he looks set to be crowned the Bundesliga’s top scorer.

But this did leave Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou with a big void to fill over the summer and Tottenham did not exactly bring in a replacement.

And the Tottenham manager has now been speaking about what he actually thought when he heard the news that Kane was leaving the club.

Ange Postecoglou reveals his honest thoughts when Harry Kane left Tottenham

Having lost the club’s record goalscorer just hours before the season begun, it left Tottenham with a decision to make on who could fill in for Kane.

Of course, there was never going to be a like-for-like replacement with Richarlison taking the role as the club’s main striker.

His injury issues have meant that club captain Heung-min Son has now been played through the middle for a lot of the games in recent weeks and it has provided mixed results.

Tottenham are now being linked with a host of strikers going into the summer with the likes of Ivan Toney said to be on the radar.

But with the summer transfer window approaching, Postecoglou has now spoken about his feelings after losing perhaps the club’s greatest player.

Speaking in his press conference from Hotspur Way on Friday, Postecoglou admitted he made a real effort not to show any panic he may have held at the time.

“I think that was sort of the starting point for us, because I was literally sitting in here [for my press conference] the day before the Brentford game and he’d just left. So you’re starting a season and the most significant person at this football club, maybe ever, has just left on the eve of the first game.

“I remember making a real conscious effort of… it’s the old duck just looking really graceful above the water and if there’s any panicking happening, make sure it’s under the water where nobody can see, particularly the players. And the players never batted an eyelid – which they could have. Especially when you look at what Harry has done this year. It has been unbelievable.”

And it was made very clear that Postecoglou would have loved to still have Kane at his disposal with the Australian waxing lyrical about the England captain.

“That was going to be a big challenge for us because Harry is the best number nine in the world at the moment and he was a consistent goalscorer for this football club in the Premier League. Irrespective of the club’s fluctuations, he always scored goals.”

Interesting stat that shows how well Tottenham have dealt without Harry Kane

Going into the weekend, Tottenham still have six games remaining in the Premier League and with an awful lot still to play for.

Despite losing a player who netted 30 times in the Premier League alone last season, Spurs look set to beat their goal tally for last season.

And that goes to show just how well the players have adapted to Postecoglou’s style of play which has implicated a much more attack-minded style.

However, it has to be said that this start only makes you wonder how many goals Kane could have scored this season in this free-flowing Tottenham side…
