Enzo Maresca must hand 'excellent' 20-year-old his first Leicester appearance this season vs Preston - opinion

Enzo Maresca must hand a talented youngster his a big chance to impress against Preston North End on Monday evening.

The promotion party was in full swing at Seagrave over the weekend, as Leeds United suffered a bruising 4-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Friday.

City will be playing Premier League football next season after sealing a top-two finish without even kicking a ball.

They have the chance to win the title tomorrow with victory after Ipswich Town were held to a 3-3 draw at Hull City.

For a moment, it looked like Leicester could drop into the playoffs, especially considering the form Leeds and Ipswich were showing.

Though, they’ve turned the screw in recent weeks, winning four of their last six games to move on to 94 points.

Despite back-to-back defeats to Millwall and Plymouth Argyle in there, their results have been enough to pull clear at the summit of the Championship table and they’ve now wrapped up promotion with two games to spare.

With that said, perhaps Maresca should now hand some of his fringe players the chance to impress against North End, particularly one academy star who has been making noise with the under-21s.

Sammy Braybrooke deserves his big break

Sammy Braybooke has recently returned from a long lay-off having suffered a serious knee injury at the start of 2023.

Speaking last month, Braybrooke said: “This injury is one of the hardest things I’ve been through, but I’ve been with a group of lads that have helped me all the way. If you keep working hard, then you’ll get the rewards at the end of it.”

The talented midfielder has been impressing in the under-21s and scored a quite brilliant goal against West Ham United on Friday.

The ‘excellent’ 20-year-old is of a similar profile to Harry Winks and could replace the former Tottenham Hotspur man in the starting line-up on Monday.

Winks has started 43 of the 44 league games this term, so he’s long overdue a rest.

Now would be the perfect time to bed Braybrooke into Maresca’s system.
