Report: Barcelona now hoping agent will help land transfer deal for £43m Man City star

Barcelona are reportedly now hoping that the agent of one Manchester City star will help the Spanish club sign the player this summer.

The La Liga side have a track record when it comes to signing players from the Manchester club in recent years such as Ferran Torres and Ilkay Gundogan on permanent deals and Joao Cancelo on a season-long loan last summer.

With the next summer transfer window on the horizon, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding another City player Barcelona have their eyes on and how they hope to land a deal for him.

According to a recent report from Sport, Barcelona are hoping that Jorge Mendes will do all he can to make a deal that would see Bernardo Silva join Xavi’s side in the summer.

The report also adds that the Spanish club may only be able to pay the £50m release clause in Silva’s contract if they sell one of their young stars first.

Back in the 2017 summer transfer window, the Manchester club paid £43m to sign the midfielder from Monaco.

Since then, the 29-year-old has gone on to make 350 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring 66 goals and providing 62 assists.

Could this be Bernardo Silva’s final season at City?

Barcelona were linked with the Portuguese international during the previous summer transfer window, but Silva ended up staying at the Etihad Stadium and even signed a contract extension until 2027.

Since then, the midfielder has gone on to feature in 44 games for the Citizens across all competitions this season, which could end with another Premier League title and FA Cup added to his collection.

Looking ahead to the next summer transfer window, we feel that regardless of what Barcelona want Mendes to do, the only way they may be able to sign Silva is by paying his release clause.
