West Ham could go for 59-year-old who was recently 'one of Europe's most-wanted managers' - Romano

West Ham United are reportedly on the lookout for a new manager to potentially take the reins from David Moyes at the end of the season.

The Hammers boss is out of contract in summer and there hasn’t been any serious indication that he’ll remain at the club after the end of the season.

Back in February, Moyes told the press that West Ham have offered him a new deal, but added that he was waiting until the end of the season before making a decision.

As per football.london, Moyes is expected to hold conversations with West Ham owner David Sullivan, but it’s widely anticipated that the club will seek a new direction.

Numerous managers have been linked with the London stadium hotseat, including one who was up until recently “one of Europe’s most-wanted managers”.

The manager in question is Hansi Flick, whose stock was at an all-time high just a few years ago after his heroics with Bayern Munich.

Fabrizio Romano named the 59-year-old as one of several coaches potentially in the running for the West Ham job.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about West Ham manager target Hansi Flick?

Romano gave a detailed update on the state of play regarding the West Ham manager search situation on CaughtOffside.

He touched upon the Ruben Amorim situation, and also mentioned Paulo Fonseca and Julen Lopetegui.

“I think there is a 90 percent chance to see David Moyes leaving West Ham at the end of the season,” said Romano.

“This is the feeling. Then we have to wait for the formal steps and the formal meetings at the end of the season.

“But the intention internally looks very clear – West Ham are looking at candidates, so I see David Moyes leaving the club at the end of the season.

“In terms of Moyes’ replacement, they have multiple candidates at West Ham.

“We know they had a meeting with Amorim last Monday, but…there is no agreement at all it’s really far and it’s not going to happen.

“Then let’s see what’s going to happen with other candidates for example Hansi Flick could be a possibility… for example Paulo Fonseca, who is doing an excellent job at Lille.

“We’ve also had rumours about Julen Lopetegui but his priority is AC Milan, so as long as he’s in the race to become new Milan manager Lopetegui will wait for that opportunity.

“So let’s see what’s going to happen there but for sure West Ham are already in a process to appoint a new manager and I think this is more than likely for the summer.”

Why would Hansi Flick be a good shout for West Ham this summer?

Although Flick may not have done well with the Germany national team, his spell with Bayern was nothing short of incredible.

In 2019-20, he guided the Bavarians to the Treble, winning the Bundesliga title, the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League. He won the latter competition with a 100 percent record too.

The reported West Ham target also won a gargantuan 83 percent of his games at Bayern and helped them average 3.0 goals per game in all competitions.

Back in March, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague noted on BBC Sport how Flick was up until recently ‘one of Europe’s most-wanted managers’.

And despite his forgettable spell with Germany, he was said to be on Barcelona’s shortlist before Xavi made a U-turn on his decision to leave at the end of the season.

Flick is seemingly looking to return to football this summer, and West Ham are in a good position for him to take over and take to the next level.
