‘Very good’: Mauricio Pochettino says he’s been really impressed with Tottenham man this season

Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking about Ange Postecoglou ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday evening.

The Argentine is preparing for his second meeting with his former side since leaving Tottenham back in 2019.

Earlier this season, Chelsea picked up a surprise 4-1 win at Spurs and ended Ange Postecoglou’s unbeaten start to life in the Premier League.

It proved to be a nightmare evening for Spurs back in November, with key players James Maddison and Micky van de Ven picking up injuries while Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero were both sent off.

The Lilywhite have since slipped from top of the table to fifth place, while Chelsea currently sit ninth in Mauricio Pochettino’s debut campaign.

It’s a must-win for both sides as Spurs bid to keep their top-four hopes alive while the Blues remain in with a chance of securing a European spot.

Pochettino lauds Postecoglou ahead of London derby

Speaking to Football.London ahead of tomorrow night’s clash at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino was full of praise for the Spurs boss.

“I think he recovered the hope for the club and the fans,” he said of Postecoglou. “They are playing very good football.

“It is always difficult when you arrive to a new country and the challenge is massive, but I think he is doing a great job.”

Postecoglou has faced some criticism in recent weeks after Spurs’ attacking style has led to defeats to Newcastle and Arsenal.

But the Aussie boss remains on course for a top-five finish, which would represent an encouraging first season after losing star man Harry Kane.

Pochettino will probably know better than anyone about the task Postecoglou has at hand after five and a half years at Spurs. Interestingly, the Argentine also delivered a fight-place finish in his debut season in north London.

Tottenham’s record at Stamford Bridge

Postecoglou faces a difficult task tomorrow night as he bids to avoid consecutive derby defeats.

Pochettino’s men fought back from 2-0 down at Villa Park over the weekend to pick up a point. But much like Spurs, their recent form has been mixed. After thrashing Everton 6-0 at home two weeks ago, Chelsea then suffered a 5-0 defeat at the Emirates eight days later.

Spurs’ record at Chelsea isn’t exactly encouraging though, having picked up just one league win at Stamford Bridge in their last 33 visits.

That victory came under Pochettino as his Tottenham side picked up a 3-1 win at the Bridge back in April 2018.
