Spurs could now sign one of the ‘most consistent and best’ midfielders around for £50m before Euro 2024 is even up - opinion

Tottenham Hotspur appear likely to bolster their ranks when the transfer window opens in summer.

Spurs have improved since last season and their future looks bright with Ange Postecoglou at the helm.

However, there’s still work to do with regards to the quality and strength in depth of the Tottenham squad.

Midfield is an area where Spurs could potentially strengthen, amid speculation linking Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with a move away from N17.

Now, if reports are true, there may be a top Premier League midfielder up on the market for £50million that Spurs could obtain before Euro 2024 is even finished.

The player in question is Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, who the Blues appear to be eager to sell in the coming months.

What’s the latest on Chelsea midfielder and Tottenham target Conor Gallagher?

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are ready to sell the 24-year-old for £50million, as they need to sell academy graduates for ‘pure profit’ to help fund further transfer spending.

The report also claims Chelsea would ideally like to sell Gallagher or other high-value academy graduates before June 30, so that the deals can be included in their 2024-25 accounts.

Postecoglou is reportedly ‘driving his club’s interest in him’, while West Ham and Newcastle are also keeping tabs on the player too.

At just 24 years of age, Gallagher has already captained Chelsea, is one of their key players, and is very much in the England picture, so he’d be a solid signing for Tottenham.

Paul Merson recently described him as ‘one of their most consistent and best players’, which is an accurate assessment. If the opportunity is there, Tottenham should take it.

Gallagher is nowhere near his prime yet and Postecoglou would no doubt take him to the next level.

Better still, doing so before we’re even in July would enable him to get a full pre-season under his belt at Tottenham.
