Ange Postecoglou reveals why Tottenham  have just contacted the PGMOL after Arsenal game

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed that the club have now contacted the PGMOL in the wake of the Arsenal defeat.

It was North London Derby defeat for Tottenham with the Lilywhites’ second half fight not enough to turnaround another dismal first 45 minutes.

Spurs now have five games remaining in their first campaign under Ange Postecoglou with Champions League football now seemingly out of sight.

But Spurs cannot afford too many more slip ups with some seriously difficult games still left to play over the next couple of weeks.

The defeat on the weekend did provide a number of talking points when it comes to decisions made by referee Michael Oliver.

And Postecoglou has now admitted Spurs have felt it was necessary to receive some clarification from the PGMOL over something that happened at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What Tottenham have wanted the PGMOL to explain after the Arsenal loss

Despite having VAR in operation, Premier League games have become more controversial than ever when it comes to refereeing decisions.

And Sunday’s North London Derby was no different with Spurs on the end of a number of debatable calls from Oliver.

Dejan Kulusevski will feel hard done by not to have received a penalty in the first half after Leandro Trossard clipped the Swede’s legs inside the box.

Frustratingly, that incident then led to Bukayo Saka going up the other end and doubling Arsenal’s lead.

However, there was an incident which may have gone slightly unnoticed during the game with Ben White spotted undoing Guglielmo Vicario‘s gloves during a corner.

Although Postecoglou was not too concerned about the Arsenal defender’s antics, he has admitted he feels Vicario could do with some extra protection from the officials.

“You’re allowed to reach out to them. They’re not a hidden society. I’m sure all the clubs do. We seek clarification in case certain things have changed,” said Postecoglou.

“You never know. We just wanted some clarity on what the actual position is on interference on the goalkeeper.

“I’m ancient, mate, but I always thought that the goalkeeper was a bit of a protected species. Maybe that’s shifted now and I missed the memo.”

Postecoglou did admit they are yet to receive any real answer from PGMOL.

Ange Postecoglou’s comments will backfire if Spurs don’t solve set piece issue

It has become apparent Tottenham have a real issue when it comes to defending set pieces.

The weekend saw Spurs concede a further two goals from corners and that now takes Spurs up to 14 set piece goals conceded this term.

It is a running theme in Postecoglou’s first term in north London but he has been stern in his response to criticism on the issue.

“I’m just not interested in it. I never have been. Enough of you [journalists] have done enough research on me to know this is not the first time I’ve been questioned about set-pieces in my coaching career. There is an underlying reason for that which I’m very, very comfortable with,” he said in Wednesday’s press conference from Hotspur Way.

He did not clarify what exactly that reason was, but if Spurs do not improve over the summer then there will surely be serious questions over why Postecoglou is unwilling to accept a need for change.
