'I understood': Reporter says he thinks £26m player has now agreed to join Arsenal

One of the most interesting prospects in Europe has now – apparently – agreed to join Arsenal.

The Gunners have proved they aren’t afraid to take risks in the market across recent years.

For example, Arsenal splashed £27m to sign William Saliba when he was just 18 – while also parting with £60m for a player who many in English football had given up on in Kai Havertz.

Signing a player from Turkey would also represent a gamble for Arsenal – given the difference in quality between the Premier League and the Super Lig – although Mikel Arteta is now seemingly trying to do exactly that…

Arsenal make progress with Ferdi Kadioglu move

Well – according to Turkish football reporter Devrim Zengi – Ferdi Kadioglu has agreed to join Arsenal.

The respected media presence in Turkey actually spoke to the Fenerbahce No.7’s father about rumours linking his son with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Previously, a story from Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu claimed that Arsenal are planning to submit a £26m bid for Kadioglu – a player who has been compared to Joao Cancelo.

The Turkey international’s father did not directly tell Zengi that an agreement had been reached with Arsenal.

However, the reporter came away from the conversation with Kadioglu’s dad under the impression that the 24-year-old has decided to join the Gunners.

Zengi told Turkish news outlet Karar: “Ferdi Kadioglu is meeting with Arsenal, Ferdi shook hands. His father, Feyzullah Kadioglu, did not say ‘yes, he is going to Arsenal, we made an agreement with Arsenal’ but from the questions I asked and the answers I received, I understood that Ferdi Kadioglu agreed with the Premier League giant Arsenal.”

Make of that what you will – although it certainly sounds interesting.

Mikel Arteta could make Turkey international a starter

So far this season, Arteta has used Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior on the left of defence – with all three failing to nail down the position due to a combination of injuries or poor displays.

Therefore, the Spaniard could be pursuing Kadioglu to go straight into the starting XI.

The Turk has shone for Fenerbahce in an inverted left-back role so far this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists in 47 appearances.

To provide an idea of Kadioglu’s playing style, he has been compared to Cancelo – as aforesaid – by Breaking The Lines.

Kenan Kocak – Assistant Manager of the Turkey National Team – has told the aforementioned Karar: “If you can get him, get him. He will do a great job.”

In that respect, Arteta and Edu Gaspar may be onto something special here…
