'My moment': Inter Miami player convinced he's about to get game-time despite competing with Luis Suarez

An Inter Miami player is convinced he will get game-time this season despite having to compete with Luis Suarez.

The Uruguay international joined the Herons in January in what was the biggest transfer Inter Miami have so far pulled off in 2024, with Suarez making the adjustment to MLS easy once the season got going.

Nine goals and six assists in all competitions has helped Inter Miami shoot up to top spot in the Supporters’ Shield standings, with Suarez rediscovering his old form alongside former FC Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.

Leonardo Campana keen to challenge Suarez for Inter Miami starting spot

Speaking to the Miami Herald, 23-year-old attacker Leonardo Campana detailed how he plans to challenge Suarez for the starting striker position, which the Ecuador international held for almost a year at Inter Miami.

With the former Wolves star scoring just twice in all competitions this season, Campana has a lot to do on the pitch if he’s to replace Suarez in the starting XI, yet the youngster seems determined to do just that.

Campana said when asked if he thinks he can challenge Suarez: “I’m happy to be back with the team, getting minutes as a starter. I left the game with positive feelings.

“Ever since I got here, I’ve had to compete for a starting job, first with Gonzalo [Higuain], then with Josef [Martinez] and now with Luis [Suarez]. I know my moment will come if I keep doing things the right way.”

Suarez mentoring Campana could be massive in the long run

At 23, Campana has some way to go before he realizes his true potential as a leading striker for a top MLS side, yet Suarez is the perfect player for the forward to learn from this season.

As we know, the 37-year-old striker is one of the most prolific soccer players in the 21st century, with Suarez showcasing this season how the Uruguayan forward needs just one chance to score.

And for Campana, learning everything possible from Suarez this year could work wonders for the 23-year-old in the years to come, especially if the Inter Miami no.9 decides to call time at the end of this season.
