‘Really good’: Chris Sutton says £27m Arsenal player is even better than Kai Havertz

Chris Sutton has been naming his top five Premier League players of the season.

As you can imagine, the likes of Declan Rice and Phil Foden got special mentions, and, interestingly, two other Arsenal players also made the cut.

Indeed, Sutton’s list of the five best Premier League players included three stars from Arsenal, and interestingly, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba didn’t make the cut.

Instead, Sutton opted for Gabriel Magalhaes and Kai Havertz, placing the pair fourth and fifth respectively with the Brazilian just edging out his teammate.

Gabriel Magalhaes has been better than Kai Havertz

Sutton named his top five Premier League players of the season and gave a special mention to Arsenal’s £27m defender.

“Ollie Watkins, he will be going to the euros, it’s not all about the big boys. At number four I’ll go with Gabriel, the centre-half, and, do you know what, I’m going to go with Kai Havertz (at number five), the adversity he’s come back from, he’s been a really good player for them,” Sutton said on It’s All Kicking Off.

Gabriel Magalhaes has had a fantastic season

Gabriel Magalhaes may well be one of the most underrated players in the Premier League.

Yes, Sutton has given him his due credit here, but this is a rare case of Gabriel getting the praise he deserves.

It may be overegging it a bit to suggest that Gabriel has been the fourth-best player in the league this season, but, make no mistake about it, he’s been one of the best defenders in England this term.

The Brazilian seems to have really matured, and while William Saliba gets most of the credit for Arsenal’s stellar defensive record, Gabriel has been just as vital.

The centre-half deserves more credit than he gets for Arsenal’s recent success.
