Giovani Lo Celso admits two Tottenham players really impressed him in Sunday’s loss to Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso was left seriously impressed by two players in Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool.

Another game and another defeat for Ange Postecoglou‘s side in the Premier League as they now hold just a four point cushion over Newcastle United.

A tense end to the season is now on the cards as Tottenham‘s most realistic target now remains on securing Europa League football.

But their recent performances are not exactly filling the fans full of confidence with nine points still to play for.

As Spurs continue to struggle, Postecoglou is making some changes to his starting XI, but Giovani Lo Celso continues to struggle to earn a starting spot.

The Argentine was unable to earn much more than a later cameo display at Anfield on Sunday which meant he had a good view of his teammates throughout the game.

And there were two specific Tottenham players who really impressed him with their displays on Merseyside.

Giovani Lo Celso left impressed by two Spurs players in Anfield defeat

The defeat at Anfield has left Spurs needing results in their upcoming games if they are going to keep hold of fifth spot.

But the performance levels have decreased dramatically over recent months with a number of players just not looking right.

Heung-min Son has netted twice in his last three games but the South Korean captain just does not look like the same player as earlier in the term.

However, it is apparent Lo Celso still thought two players came out of the trip to Anfield with some credit to their names.

Despite seeing four goals conceded away to Jurgen Klopp’s side, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero earned the praise of the Argentine midfielder.

Taking to his Instagram account, Lo Celso posted a story with a photo of the three Spurs player and captioned it with, ‘What a players’.

In what has been an underwhelming few weeks, it has – oddly – been the two centre-backs which have remained Tottenham’s two most promising players.

Romero’s display against Arsenal is the prime example of this with the World Cup winner netting against Arsenal and leading the fightback offered in the second half.

Opportunities for Giovani Lo Celso looking bleak under Ange Postecoglou

James Maddison kept his spot on the bench for the trip to Anfield on Sunday but Lo Celso was not offered a chance from the start.

Despite creating the most chances of any Spurs player in his short cameo display on Thursday night, Lo Celso was only brought on for the final 15 minutes.

This has to be the biggest indication that the Argentine does not hold a future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It has now been claimed the 28-year-old has decided he wants to leave this summer as he’s unhappy with the lack of game time he’s earning.

But with Spurs not certain of a fifth-placed finish then it is essential that Postecoglou is picking the best-performing players regardless of what their future may hold.
