Report: Chansiri's stance on new Sheffield Wednesday contract for Danny Rohl following positive talks

Danny Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri are believed to be engaged in positive talks about the club’s future.

The very early beginnings of this summer seem widely different to those of last summer.

Last summer saw Sheffield Wednesday earn promotion from League One but then soon after part ways with Darren Moore.

Moore and Chansiri were at an impasse over a potential new deal for the former and so Sheffield Wednesday fans will be wary of Rohl and Chansiri meeting this time round, to discuss Rohl’s future at the club.

But recent reports revealed that the pair have held positive talks re the future of the club, with Chansiri even overseeing some early improvements to the Middlewood training ground.

And now, The Star say that there’s talks of a new contract for Rohl.

Danny Rohl in line for new Sheffield Wednesday contract

It was previously claimed that Rohl signed a contract with Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the upcoming 2024/25 season.

And now, The Star are reporting that Rohl and Chansiri’s recent talks have also included discussions over a potential new contract for Rohl, with Chansiri clearly keen to extend the German’s stay.

The same report confirms that Rohl is under contract at Hillsborough until the summer of 2025 and that much of his backroom team are as well.

The main sticking point for Danny Rohl and Dejphon Chansiri

The shock of Moore’s exit is still very much felt among Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

Although matters worked out for the better, there’s always a sense that, at Sheffield Wednesday, such unexpected events are often waiting around the corner.

And given how Moore and Chansiri met to discuss a new contract last summer, with the end result being Moore’s exit, there’s definitely an element of suspense where Rohl’s contract is concerned.

But so far, everything seems to be moving in a positive direction for Sheffield Wednesday after securing their Championship safety.

Chansiri seems to be making efforts to keep Rohl happy and if the controversial Owls owner can also get Rohl on a long-term deal then it’ll be nothing short of a masterstroke.

Chansiri still has a long way to go to earn back the trust and faith of supporters following what’s been his most controversial and outspoken season.

But his actions will speak louder than his words, and he needs to let his actions do the talking this summer and let Rohl take care of the footballing side of matters.

With interest in Rohl, a longer contract and a hefty compensation fee would be huge for Sheffield Wednesday.
