'Helped me': Fabio Carvalho names the Liverpool player he looks up to the most in Jurgen Klopp's current squad

Fabio Carvalho has named the player he looks up to the most in Jurgen Klopp’s current squad at Liverpool.

Fabio Carvalho’s time at Anfield hasn’t been a glittering success so far. But the Portuguese U21 international is still young and has plenty of time to make it at Liverpool.

Especially with a new manager coming to the club in Arne Slot, who has a prereference for players capable of playing in the number ten role – Carvalho’s favoured position.

He’s been in good form on loan at Hull City and he will back himself to catch the eye at Liverpool in pre-season if he is given a chance.

Fabio Carvalho on the player he looks up to the most at Liverpool

Ahead of his return, Carvalho spoke to the Liverpool ECHO about his time at Liverpool so far.

In the interview, the Liverpool loanee also revealed who he looks up to the most in the Liverpool squad, while naming two players who have helped him, who have already left and another who is expected to leave the club this summer in Thiago Alcantara.

“Going in every day, training under one of the best managers [Klopp] and training with the best players in the world. The best in training for me, like technically, was Firmino or Thiago,” Carvalho said.

“I kind of try to emulate my game on how they play.

“But one that stands out to me was Mo (Salah). Just the work ethic. He’s always looking to give me advice. Not just me but all the young players who want the advice.

“I feel like if you work hard, on the pitch or off the pitch, he values that and it goes a long way with him. He takes you under his wing and he’s helped me a lot.

“The same with Milly (James Milner), Milly helped me a lot as well. At the same time, he’s doing his coaching. He would give me a few pointers and do extras with me after training, so yeah, he’s helped me a lot.”

Can Fabio Carvalho make it at Liverpool?

Everyone will be starting with a clean slate at Liverpool next season. So Carvalho should get his chance in theory.

It’s true Slot likes to play with number tens, however, Carvalho also has a lot of positional rivals in the Liverpool squad for that role.

Including Harvey Elliott, Dominik Szoboszlai and even someone like Cody Gakpo. So, it remains to be seen how many chances he will be given.
