Middlesbrough eyeing summer loan for young Tottenham talent who Ange Postecoglou wanted to keep in January

Tottenham Hotspur are now receiving interest from Championship side Middlesbrough in one of their young talents.

The summer transfer window is now just weeks away from opening ahead of the new campaign and it promises to be a busy one for Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking in a recent press conference from Hotspur Way, the 58-year-old has already admitted as much suggesting several players will be moved on.

Postecoglou has now had essentially a full season to assess his squad of players and decisions will have been made on player exits.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bryan Gil are just two of the players who are expected to move on this summer.

But this summer could also offer some of the Spurs academy players an opportunity to leave on loan in search of more regular first-team football.

Championship side Middlesbrough want Tottenham wonderkid

The Tottenham academy has produced some seriously promising youngsters this season with the likes of Jamie Donley and Alfie Dorrington looking like stars for the future.

Wayne Burnett’s U21s are through to the final of the Premier League Cup and semi-final of the Premier League 2.

However, opportunities in Postecoglou’s first-team have been difficult to come by for the rising stars with Donley only receiving a handful of cameo appearances.

One other player who has seriously impressed is the 19-year-old striker Will Lankshear.

According to Football League World, Championship outfit Middlesbrough are keen on signing the striker on loan.

Michael Carrick’s side are not the only club from the second tier who are keen on the Spurs man, however.

A number of European sides are also credited in the report as being interested in a potential permanent deal for the 19-year-old.

But this is a player who Postecoglou and Tottenham were keen to keep around in January as they rejected a number of approaches for the striker, according to Football.London.

Who is Will Lankshear?

Tottenham signed the striker from Sheffield United last summer and he has gone on to be one of the real shining stars in the Spurs youth sides.

Lankshear has returned a stunning 22 goals and three assists across his 24 appearances in all competitions.

An impressive 18 of those goals have come in his 19 Premier League 2 appearances.

Clearly, this is a player who is ready to burst out of the U21s setup and try his hand at playing regular men’s football.

However, Spurs must be careful in choosing where he joins on loan as they have already seen with Troy Parrott and – more recently – Dane Scarlett that finding the right level for a striker is key to their development.
