Well, this short season is now in its last leg of the regular season. Teams are fighting for the expanded playoff positions and everyone will be on their “A” games as we hit the stretch run. Tonight’s main DFS slate on DraftKings is 12 games starting at 7:10 p.m. EST as it competes with Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets. Let’s dive into some arms, bats, and stacks for tonight’s slate.
Arms
Zach Plesac ($8,500)
Plesac struggled in his third start since returning to the Indians, surrendering five runs on six hits against the Twins. Three of the six hits were long balls. He did go seven innings for his second straight start, so that is a good sign going into a favorable matchup versus the Detroit Tigers. If you are worried about run support, the Indians put up a 10 spot against the Tigers yesterday. Today they face Michael Fulmer as they opener who holds a 9.27 ERA and 2.15 WHIP.
Jordan Montgomery ($6,700)
The Yankees’ left-hander has struggled at times this season but is coming off a nine-strikeout, no earned run performance against the Orioles in his last start. That was over 5.2 innings and he faces a team in the Red Sox who he has pitched well against. In two starts against them this season, Montgomery has surrendered two runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out eight over 9.1 innings. Oh, and no need to worry about run support. The Yankees scored 43 runs while mashing 19 homers over their three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Bronx Bombers shattered several records in the series. This price is too good to pass up for Montgomery.
Bats
Brandon Lowe ($5,500)
Lowe has been one of the Rays’ leading hitters this season and has gone 7-for-21 (.333) with two homers over the last week. Alex Cobb takes the hill for the Orioles, who has struggled this year. Cobb has given up four or more runs in three of his last four starts. He holds a 5.42 FIP and 1.40 WHIP on the season. Lowe hits righties well, as he has hit eight of his 13 homers against them this season and 14 of his 17 last year.
Kyle Lewis ($4,800)
The leading candidate for American League Rookie of the Year, Lewis faces an up-and-down Chris Paddack. He is batting .289/.390/.491 with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs overall. He has struggled over the last week, going just 4-for-22 (.181), but he has hit right-handers very well. Against righties, he has hit seven homers with a .894 OPS over 141 plate appearances. He’s due for a big game and that could very well come tonight.
Stacks
New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox
The team who mashed 19 homers the last three games faces the very inconsistent Martin Perez and the Red Sox. In his first start against the Yankees this season, Perez lasted just three innings while giving up three runs. Giancarlo Stanton ($4,300) has hit two homers in five at-bats against him, while three other hitters have hit one homer (DJ LeMahieu – $5,600, Luke Voit – $5,300, Gio Urshela – $4,500). Gary Sanchez ($4,200) is starting to heat up and is a solid play. This is an expensive stack, but well worth it if it pays off.
