FunPlus Phoenix's Doinb criticizes G2 Esports' Worlds 2020 showing The mid laner is not impressed with G2.

FunPlus Phoenix mid laner Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang doesn’t think that G2 Esports is as good this year in the 2020 League of Legends World Championship due to unfavorable meta shifts.

Right after the quarterfinal series between Gen.G and G2, Doinb took the opportunity to do a match analysis. During this, he explained why he believes G2 doesn’t look as good this year.

“Why is G2’s performance not as good as last year? Because of the carry jungler meta. Some play gank junglers, some play carry junglers, but Jankos plays gank-oriented jungles. His carry junglers are not as good,” Doinb said.

Is Jankos as good as the other junglers at Worlds 2020?

Even before Worlds 2020, Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski's performance this season has been criticized. Domestically, Jankos failed to help the team the same way he did in 2019. At Worlds 2020, Jankos has continued to under-perform.

Out of the four junglers remaining in the tournament, Jankos is last in almost every stat. The champion pools are similar between the four junglers with Graves and Nidalee as the most common picks. Jankos’ next opponent is Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu who had a quadra kill in his first game at Worlds 2020. On the other side of the bracket, the competition doesn’t get any easier.

It will be an uphill battle for Jankos and G2 as they try to qualify for the finals. The odds are against G2, but it’s not the first time the team is in this position. If there’s one squad that steps up when the pressure is on, it’s G2.

The semifinals won’t be easy for G2, especially because DAMWON Gaming is out for blood. The team has expressed its wish to get revenge on the European squad that as made a habit of upending LCK teams in international competitions. If DAMWON succeeds and makes it to the finals, it will be the first time since 2017 that an LCK team reaches that stage. If G2 achieves what feels impossible, it’d the second Worlds finals in a row for the organization.
