A Google Stadia creative director thinks streamers should pay video game developers

A Google Stadia creative director thinks streamers should pay video game developers.

Video game live streams have risen in popularity over the past few years, but recently some streamers on Twitch have had some of their videos taken down due to the copyrighted music in the games.

Now Alex Hutchinson, who is a creative director for Stadia Games, has seemingly responded to the situation, by suggesting that streamers should pay royalties to video game developers and publishers.

He wrote on Twitter: “The real truth is the streamers should be paying the developers and publishers of the games they stream. They should be buying a license like any real business and paying for the content they use.

“Streamers worried about getting their content pulled because they used music they didn't pay for should be more worried by the fact that they're streaming games they didn't pay for as well. It's all gone as soon as publishers decide to enforce it.

“Amazing to me that people are upset at someone saying that the creators of content should be allowed to make some of the money from other people using their content for profit.”

A spokesperson for Google has since responded by insisting that Hutchinson’s views do not reflect their own.

Speaking to 9to5Google, a spokesperson said: "The recent tweets by Alex Hutchinson... do not reflect those of Stadia, YouTube or Google."
