A three-ship convoy the Cypriot port of Larnaca on Saturday with 400 tonnes of food and other supplies as concerns about hunger in the territory soar. The vessels and a barge were carrying ready-to-eat items like rice, pasta, flour, legumes, canned vegetables and proteins. In an exclusive interview, the president of Cyprus told Euronews a maritime corridor from the Mediterranean island to Gaza could become a wider blueprint for delivering assistance. Nicos Christodoulides said sending aid over sea could not only help Gaza's reconstruction following Israel's devastating war with Hamas, but be applied to many crises in the region. An aid ship loaded with some 200 tons of food set sail Tuesday from Cyprus to Gaza, the international charity behind the effort said. A ship carrying 200 tonnes of food aid meant for civilians in Gaza is still waiting at a port in Cyprus, as Israeli authorities requested to inspect it. The vessel, which belongs to the Spanish NGO Open Arms, is currently on the south east coast of the island, in the city of Larnaca. Nicosia (AFP) - A first group of evacuees from Israel arrived in Cyprus on Tuesday aboard a US-chartered cruise ship as the island's authorities announced plans for a twice-daily ferry link for those wishing to leave. The 159 evacuees on board the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Rhapsody of the Sea primarily consisted of elderly individuals, families with children and tourists.
