Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has been asked about his stance on the transfer portal several times recently. A few days after making headlines for saying “every player is technically a transfer,” Swinney offered more thoughts on the transfer portal and why Clemson isn’t very active in it during an interview with Roddy Jones on College Sports on SiriusXM. According to Swinney, most players in the transfer portal wouldn’t help the Tigers. “I mean, it’s really pretty simple. Most of the guys in the portal aren’t good enough to play for us. That’s just the reality of it,” Dabo Swinney said. “I mean, ...

The future of the ACC is certainly up in the air if big brands like Florida State and others were to find their way out of the league. So what would happen at that point? On3’s Andy Staples broke down the future of the ACC, including a potential merger that logically seems like a good solution. “Eventually Florida State and Clemson are gonna get out. You had the drama with North Carolina, their board of trustees and what they want to do, and there’s certain people in North Carolina who would like them to do the same thing that Florida State and Clemson are doing,” Staples said on his show. “An...

Dabo Swinney doubled down on Clemson not signing any transfers once again. Well, they did in a technical sense according to the Tigers’ coach. Clemson was the only non-service academy to not take any transfers among college football programs. For a national title winning program, it is bizarre in this day and age. But, Swinney stuck to his guns regarding that mentality. “It wasn’t really necessarily like an intentional thing,” Swinney said on ACC PM. “There’s a couple of guys we looked at but you know, they gotta love you too … And honestly, every player is technically a transfer. You know, we...

Few things in college football have been scrutinized as heavily the last few years as Dabo Swinney‘s approach to the transfer portal at Clemson, with the Tigers utilizing it far less than the majority of their power conference peers. And Swinney doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to change that any time soon. The ACC Network’s David Hale joined On3’s Andy Staples to discuss Dabo Swinney’s portal strategy, providing some unique factoids to lead off the discussion. “Four teams didn’t take a transfer,” Hale began. “Army, Navy, Air Force and Clemson. Which one of these is not like the others? Is Dabo t...

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. — The wound remains raw more than five months later. “What happened last year was tragic,” Florida State athletic director Michael Alford said Tuesday at the ACC’s spring meetings. Alford’s football team was excluded from the final four-team College Football Playoff after it went 13-0 and won the ACC title. But it’s not only raw for the Seminoles, who have taken matters into their own hands by suing the ACC over its grant of rights and exit fee in what certainly appears to be an attempt to leave the conference as soon as possible. Florida State missing the playoff shook eve...

There just aren’t many environments in sports better than a college football powerhouse’s home stadium on a nice fall Saturday night, with tens of thousands in raucous support of their programs. On the Joel Klatt Show this week, the Fox Sports analyst was asked by a listener to lay out his top five toughest places to win in all of college football — a question that’s nearly impossible to answer given how many legendary stadiums with diehard fans exist across the country. But Klatt did his best to provide an accurate top five. Take a look below at his ranking of the hardest home fields to win a...
