Dan Hurley‘s decision is final. College basketball’s reigning two-time national champion head coach declined the Los Angeles Lakers offer, opting to remain at the University of Connecticut instead. Hurley spent the last several days being courted by L.A. to be its successor to Darvin Ham, who was dismissed in May after two seasons as the 28th coach of the Lakers. However, life in Storrs, Connecticut, is too good for the Hurleys to give up, so he passed up the opportunity to be No. 29 at the Lake Show, according to several reports. With Hurley’s decision to stay in Storrs, college basketball’s ...

After starting from scratch, Mark Pope has filled the Kentucky roster with 12 players who understand the assignment. With defensive masters transferring in, and an offensive scheme set to put up big points, Big Blue Nation will have plenty of on-court action to anticipate as the season draws closer. However, in these dog days of summer, one of the best things we can do is get hyped for what numbers everyone will be wearing. I have to admit, I love jersey numbers more than a person should. This time of year always has me gitty about which number the incoming players will pick. One of my superpo...

Welcome back to another edition of the KS(book)Report. In our inaugural feature, I broke down Rex Chapman’s New York Times best-selling memoir, It’s Hard For Me to Live with Me. It was an all-gas, no-brakes, whiplash-inducing ride around every corner in the whirlwind life of one of Kentucky basketball’s most cherished icons. Despite being another autobiography from a Wildcat legend, the second book up for review could not be the more polar opposite in style. In They Call Me Goose, Jack Givens takes us readers on a much more gently paced stroll through his fascinating and unconventional life. I...

Mark Pope keeps telling the Big Blue Nation that he and his program “understand the assignment” that comes with Kentucky basketball. The Wildcats want to win championships and hang banners. On the way to that postseason success, winning the in-state rivalry matters a ton. New Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey also seems to understand that. In an interview with Kent Spencer of WHAS11 in Louisville, the new Louisville coach sat down for 14-plus minute interview to discuss all things NIL, transfer portal, managing expectations, and Skyline orders. But the 49-year-old was also asked about the big r...

Kentucky Proud Park was filled to the brim on a perfect night for baseball in Lexington. Among those in attendance? Oscar Tshiebwe and plenty of current Kentucky men’s basketball players. Over half of the 12 scholarship players for the upcoming 2024-25 Kentucky roster were spotted at KPP on Saturday night. The Kentucky MBB social media account posted a picture featuring Brandon Garrison, Collin Chandler, Andrew Carr, Otega Oweh, Kerr Kriisa, and Ansley Almonor. The flick also included a pair of walk-ons from last season’s team, Grant Darbyshire and Walker Horn, indicating those two could be ba...

Reed Sheppard might be done playing for the Kentucky Wildcats, but he’s not done being involved with the Big Blue Nation. On Friday, Sheppard announced the “Reed Sheppard Fantasy Experience”, which will run from August 23-24 inside Rupp Arena. Similar to the Fantasy Camps that KSR’s Jack Pilgrim attended over the years under the previous coaching staff, the Reed Sheppard Fantasy Experience looks to provide the same level of entertainment for those lucky enough to attend. “Whether you’re an avid basketball player or just a die-hard fan, our Fantasy Camp offers an unforgettable experience tailor...

Crystal was teaching her nephew how to take more shots, not just safe shots. She wanted to work with Jaxson on moving without the ball in his hands. That wasn’t something Jaxson wanted to do. “I don’t want to work on that today,” Crystal recalls Jaxson sa...

The annual Kentucky vs. Indiana All-Star series saw the first of two games go to the Bluegrass State and a future Wildcat. On Friday night at Lexington Catholic High School, Kentucky men’s basketball incoming freshman Travis Perry helped lead the Kentucky All-Stars past the Indiana All-Stars by a final score of 103-82. Although it wasn’t Perry’s best scoring night — 12 points on 2-8 shooting — he and the rest of the Kentucky All-Stars received a massive second-half boost from Oldham County’s Max Green, who is committed to play college ball at Holy Cross. At the halftime break, which saw the In...

Kentucky’s point guard has arrived on campus and he understands the assignment. Lamont Butler moved his belongings into the Wildcat Coal Lodge yesterday and shared a message for the Big Blue Nation on the Kentucky Basketball Twitter account. By now, it should sound pretty familiar. “What’s up, BBN? I just landed in Lexington, coming all the way from San Diego. I’m really excited to be here. I already feel the love already and I’m here because I understand the assignment. We’re gonna chase No. 9 and we’re going to win championships and hang banners in Rupp Arena.” Butler comes to Kentucky from ...

Mark Pope made quite a trek to watch one of the top players from the state of Kentucky. Pope is in Buenos Aires, Argentina today for the FIBA U18 AmeriCup, which features Lexington’s own Jasper Johnson, one of Kentucky’s top targets in the 2025 class, along with a few other players the staff has their eyes on. Team USA is 3-0 in the AmeriCup so far, beating Argentina (88-66), Belize (150-54), and Brazil (88-57). Later this morning, they play Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals. Pope tipped us off to his whereabouts with this tweet, showing the stick shift of his rental car with a plea for help. J...
