The head of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has visited the southern Orenburg region as it battles some of Russia's worst flooding in decades. A volcanic eruption in southwestern Iceland appears to have subsided, though scientists are warning that the area may experience further eruptions in the coming months. At least 46 people have been killed, and more than a thousand homes destroyed in forest fires burning around a densely populated area of central Chile, the country's president said late Saturday.
