8 clearances, 80% pass success: Nottingham Forest 21-year-old produced masterclass vs Liverpool

Nottingham Forest were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool at the City Ground but Andrew Omobamidele produced a very exciting performance.

The Reds lost after Darwin Nunez scored in the ninth minute of stoppage time after a nightmare of a decision from Paul Tierney.

Omobamidele was restored to the starting line-up with Felipe not quite fit to start the game.

The 21-year-old was in fine form despite a defeat for Forest and we’ve taken a closer look at his performance yesterday…

It was perhaps a bit of a surprise to see Nuno Espirito Santo go with Omobamidele for a fixture of this nature.

The Reds had to make a change, with Felipe not fit to start and only available to take a place on the bench.

Omobamidele has become the first reserve at Forest it would seem in the aftermath of Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna leaving the City Ground.

With Willy Boly also out injured, Omobamidele was given the shout ahead of Moussa Niakhate who was an unused substitute.

The 21-year-old signed from Norwich on transfer deadline day in the summer and he’s been getting minutes under Espirito Santo.

Yesterday, he produced arguably his strongest performance in a Forest shirt, with Who Scored showcasing his brilliance.

Omobamidele made eight clearances for Forest during the 90 minutes, blocked three shots and also made three tackles.

He was useful in possession too, completing 80% of the 20 passes he attempted during the 90 minutes.

Omobamidele can star at the City Ground in the future

The youngster was a strange signing when he came to the club as Forest already had a number of centre-backs.

Now, however, the £11 million that Forest parted with does feel like money well spent.

Omobamidele will crave more minutes after a slow start to life at Forest and this performance will have surely delighted Espirito Santo.

Forest might have to plan for life in the EFL if the worst-case scenario happens amid a possible points deduction.

In Omobamidele, Forest look to have a player who can remain at the City Ground and in the future years become an integral player.

The challenge for the Republic of Ireland star is now clear. He needs to grasp this opportunity and ensure his place becomes cemented at Forest.
