‘Very difficult’: Dean Ashton says 26-year-old Leeds player must be a nightmare to play against

Wales are on the brink of qualifying for another major tournament.

The Euro 2016 semi-finalists just have to get past Poland to secure their spot at Euro 2024, and it’s fair to say that Rob Page’s side will owe a lot to Leeds United if they get there.

Indeed, Leeds provide the backbone of this Welsh side at the moment with the likes of Joe Rodon, Connor Roberts and Ethan Ampadu being key players for both.

Daniel James is another player who is a key figure for both Wales and Leeds, and speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Dean Ashton has been discussing how difficult it must be to play against the winger.

Dan James must be a nightmare to face

Dean Ashton was weighing up Wales’ chances of beating Poland.

The former striker says that Wales do have a chance as they have a number of players who are difficult to play against, including Kieffer Moore and Dan James.

“Wales brought on Dan James at the weekend, that sort of pace is something that Poland would have to deal with that. Kieffer Moore is another very difficult player to play against. It would be a ridiculous achievement again for Wales to qualify for a major tournament with the resources they’ve got,” Ashton said.

Dan James is dangerous

Say what you will about James as a player, there’s no counter for his pace.

The best players in the world can have their off days, but there’ll never be a day where James isn’t the fastest player on the pitch.

It’s a weapon that not many teams have and it’s a weapon that there is no counter for, and if Wales can use James’ pace against Poland, maybe, just maybe they will get to the Euros.

We certainly wouldn’t like to defend against James, that’s for sure.
