‘It’s time to move on’: Pundit tells Manchester United to ‘sell’ their academy graduate

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has named the academy graduate that Manchester United should sell in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are having a poor season and may not even finish in the European places in the Premier League table this season.

It is very likely that new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will make a number of changes to the squad in the summer transfer window.

French defender Raphael Varane, who has had injury problems throughout his time at United so far, could leave.

United are also planning to sign a striker, and one of the players the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are looking at is Harry Kane.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has suggested the player that United should sell to fund a move for a new striker in the summer of 2024.

The talkSPORT pundit believes that it is time for the Red Devils to offload Marcus Rashford, adding that it is also time for the 26-year-old England international forward to move on.

Rashford is a United academy graduate who has been playing in the first team for several years now.

The forward has scored 83 goals and given 39 assists in 270 Premier League appearances so far. Rashford had a very good campaign last season, but his performances in 2023-24 have been poor.

The Englishman scored 30 goals and gave 10 assists in 56 competitive appearances for United last season.

So far this campaign, Rashford has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 39 games in all competitions.

Manchester United told to sell Marcus Rashford this summer

Cascarino said about Rashford on talkSPORT: “I said it last season, I would have sold him. I said that before the start of the season.

“I would sell Marcus. He is 26. He has had, since the age of 17 of being in the team, nine years, and that is apart from his years as a younger player.

“I think it’s time to move on. There’s massive choices for Manchester United to make.

“You have got to prioritise what is needed, what is the most necessary, and that would be one of them, but another striker coming in, that is going to cost United big money.”

Marcus Rashford is in demand

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is only 26 now. He is not at his peak, and I think that his best years are ahead of him.

There is interest in Rashford. In March, The Mirror reported that Paris Saint-Germain are keen on the England international forward.

The report claimed that the Ligue 1 giants are ready to make a bid for £75 million for Rashford in the summer transfer window.

It will be interesting to see how United and Rashford if indeed PSG make that big offer.
