Worrying problem faces Tim Steidten and it must explain West Ham reporter's new transfer claim

West Ham United director of football Tim Steidten faces an enormous problem in the summer transfer window.

Tim Steidten joined West Ham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2023, and he has already made a big impact at the London Stadium.

The 44-year-old German is set to be handed the keys to the Hammers kingdom this summer, with the club moving down more of a continental route when it comes to transfers.

Steidten was responsible for the signings of Edson Alvarez, Mohammed Kudus and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

All of those have been successful additions – Mavropanos’s display against Fulham not withstanding!

We’re in a far better place now as a club since he arrived at the London Stadium.

Now it’s really time for Steidten to shine…

Worrying problem faces Tim Steidten at West Ham

The German will have to pull a few rabbits out the hat for us in the summer transfer window.

Whether David Moyes stays or leaves is irrelevant at this point. What really matters is the sheer enormity of the task that faces Steidten…

According to Hammers insiders Claret and Hugh, Steidten has just jetted off on a transfer mission to Brazil

Now, up to 12 players apparently could leave the London Stadium this summer. Whilst all of them surely won’t go, the vast majority of them may well do.

That list above isn’t even including the likes of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, who both need to be upgraded on.

So perhaps the Brazil scouting trip is being made with one view on finding stars of the future who won’t cost the world.

The Hammers have made a habit of signing ageing mercenaries in the past, but maybe now we are planning for the long-term future of the club.

Hopefully we’ll be signing the next Lucas Paqueta or Kudus for peanuts, rather than laying out £40-50 million fees on players who have already made it.

Tim Steidten faces a complete summer rebuild at West Ham, and he won’t have unlimited finances with which to do the job.

I reckon this Brazil trip could be a very important one for our future.
