Report: Arsenal step up pursuit of £43m striker said to be 'better' than Haaland, also relatively cheap wage-wise

Arsenal are likely to delve into the market this summer in a bid to bolster their attacking ranks.

The Gunners have had a decent season for the most part, but there’s a risk they may fall short in pursuit of silverware once again.

Last season, Arsenal gave Manchester City an almighty scare in the Premier League title race, but couldn’t get over the line.

This term, the Gunners remain in contention for the title, but they handed the initiative to the Citizens last weekend.

Arsenal’s attacking options have been the subject of debate this season, with no out-and-out No. 9 in their ranks to clinically convert chances.

Now, according to the Evening Standard, the Gunners are stepping up their search for a new striker, with one name seemingly featuring high on their wish list.

The player in question is RB Leipzig forward and Slovenia international Benjamin Sesko.

What has been reported about Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko?

The Evening Standard claims that Arsenal are drawing up transfer plans after their Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Manager Mikel Arteta seemingly wants to add more firepower to his squad next season. and the Gunners have apparently scouted Sesko as they consider their options.

The report adds that Arsenal will face Premier League competition for the 6ft 4in 20-year-old forward, with Chelsea and Manchester United also tracking him.

Sesko is also reported to have a €50million release clause (£43million) that will activate in the summer.

What could Benjamin Sesko bring to Arsenal?

Sesko would be an outstanding acquisition for Arsenal. He is very talented, physically imposing and, at just 20 years of age, can get a whole lot better still.

The Bundesliga website has compared the striker to Erling Haaland, which is obviously a huge badge of honour. Indeed, Sesko has welcomed those comparisons.

“Such comparisons motivate me and give me energy,” Sesko said previously of being likened to Haaland. “They do not represent pressure. I will listen and learn so I can be even better than he is.

“My teammates at the club tell me that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even tell me that I’m better than him!”

At the same time, Sesko is more versatile than Haaland, and can also play on the wings. Considering the Gunners play with attacking players on the flanks, this would be an added benefit for Arteta.

Sesko’s current salary is reported to be around £58,000-a-week (Capology). As things stand, the exact same salary at Arsenal would make him the 23rd-highest paid player at the club (Salarysport).

The Gunners could literally treble his current wages and he’d still have six players on a higher salary than him at the Emirates.
