Vardy dropped, 27-year-old starts: Leicester City predicted XI v Southampton - opinion

Leicester City welcome Southampton to the East Midlands on Tuesday evening in what could be a season-defining clash.

A win for Enzo Marecsa‘s side would move them on to 94 points, putting them within touching distance of the Premier League.

In fact, that would be enough to secure automatic promotion if Middlesbrough were to beat Leeds United this evening.

Ahead of Tuesday’s clash at King Power Stadium, we’ve predicted the starting line-up and provided all the latest injury news.

Harry Souttar is still nursing an injury that he sustained on international duty with Australia during the March break.

Jamie Vardy, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Ricardo Pereira were all doubts ahead of the West Bromwich Albion game at the weekend but only the latter missed out.

However, Pereira was on the substitutes bench and could be back fit for Tuesday.

Aside from that, it seems as though everyone came through West Brom unscathed, so Maresca has a healthy squad to pick from.

As usual, Mads Hermansen is expected to assume his position in goal, though, there could be a change in the back four.

Wout Faes started out on the left against The Saints and could return back to the middle with Callum Doyle entering the side.

Conor Coady started against Albion and admitted he was tired towards the end having not played for a while, so he could drop out.

Hamza Choudhury and Jannik Vestergaard were excellent on the weekend and should retain their place in Maresca’s side.

Moving into midfield, Pereira should come back in to partner Harry Winks, with City’s talisman Dewsbury-Hall just in front.

Wilfred Ndidi’s minutes should be managed carefully after his long injury lay-off, so he may well be named as a substitute.

Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi have been the wide players for much of the campaign and that will remain the same on Tuesday.

Vardy netted the all-important second goal on the weekend but drops out for Kelechi Iheanacho, who deserves a chance to impress from the first whistle.

Maresca has made a point of needing to manage Vardy’s minutes this term, so he’ll likely be named on the bench.

Iheanacho, the 27-year-old, remains one of the best strikers in this division and when given the opportunity, he usually delivers.

Leicester City (4-3-3): Hermansen; Choudhury, Faes, Vestergaard, Doyle; Pereira, Winks, Dewsbury-Hall; Fatawu, Iheanacho, Mavididi.
