£25m Tottenham player says he is even better than Manchester City’s Rodri

A Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has now claimed he is even better than Manchester City’s Rodri.

Ange Postecoglou has learnt a lot about his side over the course of the 2023/24 season with his first term in charge nearly complete.

Tottenham are still in contention for a spot inside the top four but they have a lot of ground to make up on Aston Villa.

And qualification for the Champions League could require an almost faultless final six games for the north Londoners.

However, the last outing against Newcastle United was far from faultless from Postecoglou’s side with the Toon embarrassing Spurs again.

And it is games like this which will remind Postecoglou and Daniel Levy that there is still a lot of room for development at Tottenham over the coming months.

Despite some of the recent displays, there is one midfielder who is claiming he is still the best player when he takes to the pitch.

No matter who he comes up against, he is in the mindset that he is the best player about.

Tottenham midfielder claims there isn’t anyone better than him

The summer window is likely to see Spurs address their options in midfield with Tottenham already said to be eyeing up some targets.

One player who has been heavily linked with a potential switch to Spurs is Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

It is even claimed now Postecoglou is just waiting for the greenlight for Spurs to make their move for the England international.

And then there is the likes of Ederson and Teun Koopmeiners from Serie A outfit Atalanta who are both said to be in the radar.

Midfield has been an area where Spurs appear to have a lot of depth with the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

But there have been some underwhelming displays from some of those players recently.

However, speaking in a recent interview with Sky Sports, £25m signing Yves Bissouma has claimed he views himself as the best player on the pitch – even better than Rodri.

“When I play against him [Rodri] I don’t say, ‘I’m playing against the best.’ No, for me, I’m the best when I play. Every team we play, for me, I’m the best on the pitch and my team is better than all of the teams we play against,” he said.

How can Yves Bissouma get back to his best

In the early stages of the campaign, the Mali midfielder was finally looking like the player Spurs thought they’d signed from Brighton & Hove Albion.

However, his form has taken a nosedive over the course of the season.

He now finds himself named as the club’s biggest underperformer compared to his early season form.

But looking back on his display against Manchester United in the second game of the season, it can be seen what Bissouma was doing so well.

In comparison to his performance against Newcastle last week, Bissouma had almost double the touches and won more ground duels against the Red Devils than he even attempted on Tyneside.

Bissouma looked to be highly involved in the early stages of the season. He is now starting to look a little lost in the Spurs midfield.
