  • EXCLUSIVE via Graeme Bailey

Liverpool are currently in pursuit of a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.

The Reds – indeed, the whole world of football – was left stunned after Klopp announced his intention to step down in the summer.

Right from the off, speculation emerged linking Liverpool with Xabi Alonso. However, he has since made it clear he wants to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.

With that in mind, the Reds have been looking elsewhere, with numerous names doing the rounds on the rumour mill, such as Wolves boss Gary O’Neil.

However, Liverpool sources have played down suggestions that O’Neil is in contention to take charge at Anfield, TBR Football understands.

Who is on the Liverpool shortlist to replace Jurgen Klopp?

Reports have claimed that Liverpool are interested in the Wolves boss and that O’Neil had even been interviewed for the chance to replace Jurgen Klopp.

However, TBR sources with knowledge of the situation have claimed that O’Neil is not in the reckoning.

TBR understands that Ruben Amorim remains in Liverpool’s thoughts after talks with his agents in the past few weeks, and despite him talking with West Ham, although he is not the only candidate to have had contact as the club continue to work hard on Klopp’s successor.

We understand the work done by Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, and Serie A based duo Simone Inzaghi and Thiago Motta is appreciated by those in power at Anfield whilst TBR is also told that Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot are two that stand-out when being looked at analytically.

Liverpool need to get manager decision spot-on – TBR View

Although Ruben Amorim has been the most heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, he’s by no means the only one in the running.

The Reds and FSG will be very meticulous when it comes to bringing in Klopp’s replacement, and it’s good to hear that they’re keeping an open mind.

All of the managers in the running for the Liverpool job are among Europe’s best up-and-coming coaches, so it’s exciting to see them being mentioned for the role.

The Reds and FSG need to get this decision spot on to ensure continuity from the Klopp era, and they’re certainly putting the work in with some great candidates.
