'Look': Glenn Hoddle tells Mauricio Pochettino to change one Chelsea player's position after last night

Former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle believes Mauricio Pochettino is playing one of his players in the wrong position.

The Blues suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Arsenal last night. The 5-0 loss was Chelsea’s biggest in London derbies in the Premier League, and it has to be said that they didn’t deserve any better based on their performance.

Chelsea were nowhere near the level required. They could’ve easily been 5-0 down at half-time, but the hosts missed plenty of chances.

Pochettino’s men could’ve scored too. Nicolas Jackson had a couple of big opportunities, but his woes in front of goal continued last night.

Glenn Hoddle had his say during his analysis, and he thinks Jackson is being used in the wrong position by Pochettino.

Glenn Hoddle tells Mauricio Pochettino to change Nicolas Jackson’s position

Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal last summer.

The Senegal international has a lot of good qualities, but his form in front of goal this season has been really, really poor.

In 25 starts in the Premier League this season, Jackson has missed a total of 20 big chances.

That is a terrible record, and he missed another huge one last night when Chelsea were trailing Arsenal by just one goal. If that had gone in, the game could’ve been different.

Jackson did, however, catch everyone’s eye with one thing he did last night.

The striker picked the ball up, breezed past William Saliba and almost found the back of the net through a deflection.

Glenn Hoddle was really impressed by that move, so much so that he wants Mauricio Pochettino to move Jackson away from the number nine role and play him on the left flank.

The former Blues boss said in his half-time analysis on Matchday Live on Premier League productions: “This is great pace. This is what I said earlier about him playing out wide left possibly.

“I don’t think he’s a centre-forward. Look at the pace he has got, he’s got in behind, little bit unfortunate that he hasn’t got a goal there.”

Nicolas Jackson’s stats as a winger

Nicolas Jackson has played as a striker for most of his professional career, and that’s the position he was recruited to play in at Chelsea.

The Senegal international is definitely a talented footballer. He has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in his debut season in the Premier League which is not bad at all.

However, his misses have been really infuriating for Chelsea supporters, and Glenn Hoddle’s suggestion to move him out wide is actually a good one.

According to Transfermarkt, Jackson has played three games for the Blues as a left winger, and he has scored a goal and picked up an assist.

Those are some good numbers, and we think Pochettino should give him an extended run of games out wide in the coming weeks.
