Report: Tim Steidten pushing Sullivan hard to appoint two other managers ahead of Lopetegui

West Ham United are apparently still exploring other options aside from Julen Lopetegui it seems.

A recent report claimed that Julen Lopetegui is closing in on a move to West Ham, with a three-year deal reportedly on the table for him.

However, it was then claimed by club insiders that that report was in fact not true, and Lopetegui hasn’t yet been approached by the Hammers.

That’s good news as far as I’m concerned. The former Sevilla and Wolves boss is a decent coach, but he’s far too pragmatic in my eyes.

if David Moyes is going to be moved on, West Ham need to make a completely fresh start by going down an entirely different route to the Scot’s negative, overly defensive setup.

Ex-Hammer Craig Dawson absolutely raved about the 57-year-old Spaniard last year:

“I remember it was a tough game, but one thing that stood out the most was the coach. He was stood right on the sideline and felt like another player. You could feel his passion, his love for the game there, and that was something he mentioned to me when I signed a few days ago. You could really feel his passion for the game and hopefully we can see that here. We’ve had plenty of conversations and even just training with him a few days, you can really tell he’s a top coach and I can’t wait to get down to business and keep working with him.”

Despite those comments, I still don’t think he’s the right man for the job at the London Stadium.

David Sullivan has to get this managerial appointment right, but it seems like Tim Steidten could actually be calling the shots…

Tim Steidten pushing hard for two managers for West Ham ahead of Julen Lopetegui

Moyes’s time at the London Stadium is clearly coming to an end.

We should all be grateful for what he has done for us, but now’s the time for him to leave, and a really bright future lies ahead.

However, the key to taking the next step forward will be to appoint an exciting, progressive and forward-thinking manager.

I just don’t think that Lopetegui fits into that category. And that’s probably why Steidten is pushing for two other managers…

According to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, the Hammers director of football is pushing Sullivan to appoint Ruben Amorim or Paulo Fonseca over Lopetegui.

Amorim, 39, held talks with West Ham earlier this week before deciding the job wasn’t for him, but the dream is still alive according to David Ornstein.

Meanwhile, Fonseca is someone who is apparently greatly admired by those in high places at the London Stadium.

It remains to be seen who West Ham appoint to replace Moyes but I’m really hoping it’s not Julen Lopetegui – hiring the Spaniard would feel like a real sideways step.

Whereas the same definitely could not be said about Amorim or Fonseca. Let’s hope that Steidten gets his way…
