Crushing West Ham blow with Chelsea reportedly eyeing Steidten's number 1 manager target

West Ham United’s Ruben Amorim dream really could be dead and buried now, after a new report made a claim about one of our London rivals.

Ruben Amorim is believed to be the number one target for West Ham United director of football Tim Steidten, with the German pushing David Sullivan hard to appoint the Portuguese over Julen Lopetegui.

News broke earlier this week that the 39-year-old Sporting boss was in talks to replace David Moyes as the new Hammers boss.

However, it was then suggested that the deal was off. In spite of that, David Ornstein kept our hopes alive with some encouraging comments about West Ham’s hopes of snaring Amorim:

“Certainly they could be replacing David Moyes because his contract is up at the end of the season. He said back in February that he had been offered a new deal and that he would decide at the end of the campaign. I’m assured the decision will not be taken before the campaign is over. Ruben Amorim flew to London for talks with West Ham and who knows, other clubs as well. Since then, reports have emerged that Amorim is unlikely to join West Ham. Now, let’s see how it develops. For instance, Julen Lopetegui is one who West Ham have done some work on, perhaps they can go back to someone like that. From what I was told, the potential of West Ham and the project there does appeal to Amorim. I have been of the belief that he will leave Sporting at the end of the season and his preference is to come to the Premier League. I can only go on what I’m told but Amorim to Liverpool is regarded as unlikely. Who knows. West Ham want him, but it will be tough, maybe around finances or preference. But the fact that West Ham are in for someone like that is bold and ambitious”

With Liverpool now thought to be out of the race for the Portuguese coach (The Mirror), there is undoubtedly still an outside chance that we could appoint him.

Amorim would be an absolutely sensational appointment for the Hammers.

However, what first looked like an ambitious, unlikely appointment now seems like an impossible one…

With Steidten pushing hard to bring the 39-year-old to the London Stadium, it really does feel like we could be on the cusp of something very special indeed.

Securing the appointment of someone like Amorim would be a big statement move, but it really feels like it won’t be happening unfortunately.

That’s because Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is prepared to make a major decision on Mauricio Pochettino, and bring Amorim to Stamford Bridge to replace the Argentine according to to the Daily Mail.

Despite the Blues’ current struggles, I could totally see why a manager would see them as a more attractive prospect than us.

West Ham appointing the brilliant Ruben Amorim would be the absolute dream.

However, it’s feeling more and more unlikely with every day that passes right now.
